In this report, Karen responds to the comments made by Suella Braverman, Home Secretary, that many people sleeping rough are doing so as a lifestyle choice.

So this is a choice is it?

Where are their human rights?

It sickens me to the core that in one of the so-called richest countries in the world this is how we treat people.

The government have no idea how or why a person ends up on the streets and they have no intentions of finding out.

Come on what made the powers that be sit in their coven and think…

“What could we take from someone who has absolutely nothing? Someone who is cold and wet, scared, hungry and frightened. Someone who has been dealt a terrible hand in life. Someone who’s been abused, suffering with mental health and addiction. Someone who feels worthless and ashamed. Oh, that’s right, let’s take away their tents and make their hell even more unbearable.”

How cold and callous are these decision makers, how judgemental and self-righteous.

This isn’t a democracy, it’s edging on dictatorship, we have less and less rights and freedom of speech. We are invisible to the powerful and privileged.

And they are getting away with it!!!!!

I'm Karen from Manchester it's great to meet you all. I'm a recovering alcoholic,
I experienced a short time of homelessness many years ago, I'm a survivor of domestic abuse and I'm happy to say I've come through it all.
I volunteered at a local Alcohol and Substance Abuse centre where I qualified as a Peer Mentor.
I now care for my elderly dad who is housebound and I feel blessed to be able and well enough to do this.
I hope as part of this Community Reporting team our stories can contribute to making a difference to homelessness and health inequalities and shine a light on any other injustices we come across.
