This is our last Listen Up monthly photography theme. From cats to food, the Listen Up! team respond to the theme ‘Symbol of Home’, and document what the phrase means to them.
Tess’s photos:
“Home for me as a cat. A happy cat, preferably a bit strange. Whenever I’ve not had a cat in my life, I’ve felt adrift. Cats are my anchor. Here are some of the cats who have given me a home”
Kwaku’s Photos:
Sarka’s photos:
‘To me a symbol of home is a place where my cat is safe and happy.’
Morshed’s photos:
‘Home is a symbol of comfort, safety, trust, and all other positivity. Home is free from all other external influences of negativity. I feel to return home to the comfortable atmosphere of my children, to my family. In this photo, my son appears to be very relaxed without having any thought of negativity. The gesture he is showing resembles my late father. My father raised me by assuring all my comforts and trusts. I will ensure this will happen to my children. They will carry this on generation after generation. It is a legacy to carry on. To me, home symbolises trust.’
‘Bangladesh is a top producer of jute which makes her unique. Jute processing is a manual technique with a rich heritage. In this photo farmers are retting jute fibre from the stems and bundling up for the next stage. Due to its traditional nature, it reminds me of home. To me, home means cultivating a culture.’
‘In this photo farmers have gathered the jute stems together after collecting fibres for multiple uses such as lighting a fire for cooking, building a temporary wall, or even fencing. Due to its traditional nature, it reminds me of home. Home, in another word for one becoming many, and many becoming one.’
‘Bangladesh is a delta, and it is named as the Land of Rivers. Plenty of rivers run across the country. It has different types of country boats along the line of tradition. For long journeys some motor vessels run through the rivers. In this photo we can see a motor vessel passing through the major river Padma. This unique motor vessel and the river reminds me of home. Home smells of freedom, make ourselves nostalgic, and give us courage to move forward.’
