Our local park, full of colourful flowers and shrubs and nice green spaces
Dog walkers, lovers holding hands and children with their painted faces.
Swings, slides and roundabouts, the sound of laughter fills the air
Families enjoying picnics, music bellowing from the funfair.
And then there’s MY bench, amidst the trees, tucked away out of sight
Hidden from view, from nosey parkers and sunlight.
It’s my space, my secret place where I can drink alone
No judgement, no lectures from family at home.
I can hardly breathe with excitement, my hands shaking as I undo the top
Drenched in deceit and shame I take a swig from the bottle and don’t stop.
So, there it is, our parks and green spaces
For diverse people who need diverse places.
