Real Meaning Of Xmas

The festive season should be a time of selflessness, a time to think about others,

There is always something we can give no matter how little we have ourselves,

It doesn’t have to cost anything we have an abundance of wealth in other ways,

Just let someone know they are worthy and count in this world,

Give someone a little bit of hope to hang on to and get them through another day,

Be generous with your love and kindness the world needs it,

Smile your beautiful smile you’ll find it’s contagious.

The Reality of Xmas

Busy feet running here and there, no time for each other,

The well off continue being well off without a care for anyone,

They overindulge with expensive gifts all in the name of greed and selfishness,

While the poor scrape their last pennies together for heat or food,

The very idea of having both is utterly ludicrous,

The divide is forever widening, humility seems a thing of the past,

It will be a cold miserable Xmas for many and that’s the reality of life today.

I'm Karen from Manchester it's great to meet you all. I'm a recovering alcoholic,
I experienced a short time of homelessness many years ago, I'm a survivor of domestic abuse and I'm happy to say I've come through it all.
I volunteered at a local Alcohol and Substance Abuse centre where I qualified as a Peer Mentor.
I now care for my elderly dad who is housebound and I feel blessed to be able and well enough to do this.
I hope as part of this Community Reporting team our stories can contribute to making a difference to homelessness and health inequalities and shine a light on any other injustices we come across.
