Hello everyone, it’s John Chiko again. Before I begin, I want to say happy new year to everyone, I am glad that you made it and that you are here with us, here to have another rumble. As you can see, we are back to January again, the months have reset and now we have more time to achieve all those things that we have been waiting to do for years now, because you never gave them time.

Well today I am here to remind you to rejoice. The new year has come, a new cycle has come with it, and with it, new responsibilities. A few years ago, the whole new year process became very repetitive to me, however after a very deep dive into my psyche, I am now thinking that perhaps it is us that is repetitive.

Time is always willing to share new experiences with us, however these experiences are shaped by the time and effort that we put into manifesting something new. Would everything not taste the same if we cooked and ate the same thing every day? I believe that a lot of the changes that we are all waiting for can be made directly by us, if we accept the blessing and responsibility that receiving a new year truly means.

You have more hours, more days and more months to spend time to achieve your goals. You have more to go to the gym, you have more time to study, and you have more time to heal. That is what I truly love about the new year, it brings a new cycle to do more stuff, a new harvest if you will. I personally believe that if more people were to come to the same epiphany, then we would be taking a lot of our personal and collective challenges seriously.

Unfortunately, I don’t believe that it is something that we consider, the time that we are given and blessed with, to be able to experience the seasons again and the great experiences that they bring, the opportunities that having more time can really bring. It seems that we become distracted by an eternal loop within our minds that steals our attention until time begins to run out, or worse, when time completely is gone.

This is something I began to take seriously when I realised that many of our loved ones have run out of time and are no longer here with us, even though they had a lot of things that they wanted to achieve, they just didn’t have enough time.

How lucky are we that we have reached January, like the clock going past midnight. We have reached the new day and with it all the good sweet time that will allow us to do all the things that we want to do, but until when? Would it not be wise to take the opportunity of this new cycle to do all that you have been wanting to do, to release your soul from the burden of wondering and wondering until you cannot?

Well, all I can say is that in this cycle, I am to do more with my time, for my memories and my experiences are the things that I will have left when my time runs out.

Hello everyone, my name is John Chikondewa Mpaso and I am 29 years old. I am from Harare, Zimbabwe and I have lived in England for 19 years now. Ever since moving to England in 2004, I have lived in Coventry, where I attended Secondary School and Sixth Form at Lyng Hall School. Currently I am an Outreach Officer for an organisation called ININI which focuses on providing mental health services to Migrant and Local Communities. I am also Commitee Secretary for an organisation called CARAG (Coventry Asylum Refugee Action Group), which specialises in providing a range of services for Migrants and Refugees living in Coventry and the West Midlands. I become involved with ListenUp!, through a recommendation by the previous Commitee Chair of CARAG Lorraine Mponela, who shared with the group the opportunity to become a Volunteer Community Journalist for Groundswell, who would be able to capture the stories, thoughts and ideas of people who are experiencing homelessness within the areas they are a living in. Due to my own experience with homelessness and that of the people that I work with and know personally, I believed that I was in the position to capture real life stories, real time that can legitimately describe the various issues that cause homelessness to the people that live in Coventry. I believe that it is my duty to tell the real story of the homeless crisis that is being faced by the people of Coventry, both migrant and native, as I hear and see their stories play out everyday and I believe that it is on fact on one big story, that needs to be shared with the world, so that we all may truly understand the true causes of homelessness, including the many dangers and hardship that it brings forth to the people that are experiencing it. The people that I work with are my biggest inspiration, as they come in many forms like colleagues, friends and family, which has shown me that what makes humanity one, is our thoughts and feelings. It is our actions and what we do for humanity that will truly create a change, and it is up to us to take on that responsibility. It's time to Listen Up! and Make a change.
