“Never mind the homeless, lets get a new football ground”.
This report came about from a random conversation I had with a support worker.
A borough councils football club had an outdated football ground and were facing going into administration. The local council had the bright idea to give them £10.25m loan to buy a plot of land next to the stadium and bring the team out of administration.
The money literally vanished and no work or improvements were carried out.
My research has showed that seven people – six men and one women aged between 47 and 70 – were charged in relation to this incident. They were charged under the Political Parties, Election and Referendum Act 2000. This law states that anybody donating £500 or more are legally obliged to prove where the funds came from. A complete lack of morals has led to no paper trail of this money.
It’s my opinion that this local council would rather have a fancy up to date football club and grounds than help an ever increasing homeless epidemic. £10.25m could quite easily have renovated over 50% of the derelict/abandoned buildings and opened them up as either resource centres/day centres for homeless people, or created more hostels to accommodate the less fortunate.
This is why my blood boils when I hear it’s all down to funding. You can fund a multi-million pound football club and get robbed in the process but you can’t handle your local homeless problem.
I truly believe our government has failed this country and has done for decades, and it really is going to get worse.
