This is part 11 of an ongoing series. You can find number 10 here

This week hasn’t started great. Yesterday I let my potentially new landlord know I that I haven’t got a landlord’s reference.

The landlord asked me to send over the 2-page tenancy reference form I received from the National Residential Landlords Association so that they could start their tenancy check. They said that I could sort out references later.

I had a look at the form but had to do a few things during the day and got back in late so decided I would do it first thing in the morning.

I woke up this morning and began filling out the form. I managed to get past the employment part but then came the documents section. Unfortunately, the only documents that qualify are your UK passport or immigration status. I informed my caseworker at the council that I couldn’t complete this part of the application due to not having my passport.

I’m really annoyed that I still haven’t got access to my belongings. This is stopping me from getting another home and instead I’m stuck sofa surfing. I have got the council and police involved and both have been ignored by my landlord. I have sent an email this morning asking once again for access to the property to get my stuff.

For now, there is nothing else I can do and I’m not prepared to get a new passport as I have still got a few years left on my current one. It’s getting to the point where  it seems like the only way I’m going to get my stuff back is to go to the local press.

As a result of not being at my old address I have missed a hospital appointment which could have left my health at risk. Fortunately I’m lucky that a copy of the letter went to a family member who informed me of the missed appointment, and I was able to rebook an appointment for tomorrow.

I missed a Universal Credit appointment last Thursday and today I found out my new sim card had been sent to the wrong address. Fortunately, I have managed to get in contact with the phone company and have it resent to me at the correct address.

I have been without a personal phone from the 9th October and while it’s been peaceful to be honest, I also feel isolated and miss my family and friends.

Although the phone provided by Listen Up has none of my personal numbers in it, it has at least given me a way of making calls and accessing the internet.
