This piece from Charlie is an impassioned cry for universal access to broadband. Without it people are cut off from support and unable to take part. This is something that has become increasingly apparent as the pandemic has gone on.
I’m increasingly finding that when people are eventually housed, they become disadvantaged straight away.
When you are in an hostel, supported accommodation, emergency accommodation, even to a degree when rough sleeping, you are more likely to have access to WiFi than when you finally get your move on.
Once you have got your housing needs met, you lose WiFi.
It’s hard to get companies to supply you when you have bad or no credit history. It can be expensive or out of your price range. You often can’t afford it after moving in.
But everybody expects you to have it. Everything is now done online.
It has become a basic human need and a therefore a basic human right.
There now needs to be a method of making sure everybody has access to broadband so that no one falls through the gaps. Especially the multiple disadvantaged
