Isolation

The picture shows people coming to, or leaving, my city, York, or leaving leading up to their Xmas festivities.

A four-star hotel, suitcases in tow, bags of gifts from the Xmas market, a dry day… so far all is calm, all is right.

What you might not choose to see is the accommodation for a couple of our citizens who are facing homelessness in our city… that’s right, look beyond the people, into the gardens of that hotel… the shrubbery, the damp ground, running water, but not the kind that’s welcome.

I’ve stayed there myself, a few years ago, it didn’t warrant a TripAdvisor rating at the time, and I’m guessing now if it did, it wouldn’t rank up there with the hotels.

That’s life for some… and that’s not right in the first human rights city in the UK.

So next time you visit York, remember this place immediately next to the train station, maybe you could stop, reflect, then show an act of kindness if you want to.

Merry Christmas to you all
